| Hiroshi Sugimoto’s artistic creation mainly uses photography as a medium.After finishing his studies,Hiroshi Sugimoto made a living as an antique dealer and traveled between the United States and Japan.Due to the needs of the antique business,he began to understand ancient Japanese history,classical art,and Buddhist culture,and thought about propositions such as "human beings" and "space-time".Gradually,the artistic creation motivation of "putting the value of eastern civilization since ancient times into the western context to narrate" came into being.By interpreting his works,this article attempts to discuss Hiroshi Sugimoto’s photography in conjunction with Roland Barthes’ discussion of time and Punctum.The development of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s artistic concept has an important relationship with his thinking on the photographic medium itself.His unique interpretation of the temporality and reproduction of photography,as well as the "Japanese-style spirituality" pursued by Hiroshi Sugimoto’s philosophical works,It is an important way to study Hiroshi Sugimoto,and this is also the main clue for this article to explore the formation and development of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s artistic concept.Through Hiroshi Sugimoto’s thinking on the photographic medium itself and his experimental exploration of photographic creation,the author begins to explore the expressiveness and possibility of photography in contemporary art creation,and put it into practice. |
