The thesis focuses on the use of feminist translation theory in Eileen Chang’s self-translated works.In 1955,she rewrote the story of《金锁记》and renamed it《怨女》,but little attention has been paid to the English translation of The Golden Cangue and The Rouge of the North at home and abroad.As important masterpieces written and translated by Eileen Chang,they occupy a pivotal position in the history of Eileen Chang’s creation and translation,providing us with extremely typical research material and showing the necessity of their study.As a female writer and translator,the study of Eileen Chang’s works from the perspective of feminist translation theory can better reflect the original intent of her works.Eileen Chang(1920-1995)was born in the middle of the 20 th century,and she gradually developed her feminist consciousness under the influence of her time,family background,and surroundings,and wrote about what she saw and heard with a female brush.Therefore,the thesis takes “A Study on Eileen Chang’s Self-translation from the Perspective of Feminist Translation Theory: A Case Study of The Golden Cangue and The Rouge of the North” as the topic of the master’s thesis,and tries to study her self-translated works The Golden Cangue and The Rouge of the North,aiming to provide a certain amount of research on Eileen Chang’s literary works under the guidance of feminist translation theory.The purpose of this study is to provide some insights into the literary works of Eileen Chang under the guidance of feminist translation theory.Feminist translation theory,starting from gender,tries to change the status of women in society through translation.They actively intervene in the translation of texts,recreate them through translation,and provide new ideas for the fidelity and subjectivity of the translated texts with a unique translation technique exclusive to them.The thesis draws on Flotow,a representative figure of Canadian feminist translation theory,to provide a specific analysis of the “supplementing” and “hijacking” translation strategies.The thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background,significance,methodology,and structure of the thesis.The second chapter presents a literature review of feminist translation studies and the current status of the study of《金锁记》《怨女》and their translations,respectively.The third chapter expounds on feminist translation theories and strategies.The fourth chapter adopts the cases study to analyze how the two works,The Golden Cangue and The Rouge of the North,embody the feminist translation concept.The fifth chapter summarizes the research results.Through the analysis of the cases in The Golden Cangue and The Rouge of the North,the thesis holds that:(1)Feminist consciousness has played an important role in Eileen Chang’s translation;(2)Eileen Chang uses her unique feminine language style to translate,while using“supplementing” and “hijacking” translation strategies to convey the delicate emotions of women in the text.
