Analysis Of "Ping Yazi" Singing And Characterization In The Opera "The Long March"

The Long March is an original Chinese epic opera created by the National Centre for the Performing Arts(NCPA)in commemoration of the 80 th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers and Peasants Red Army.As an original opera,"The Long March" adopts a realistic approach and revolves around the evacuation of the Red Army from the Soviet area of Ruijin after the defeat of the Fifth Anti-"Siege",vividly showing the heroic spirit of the Red Army soldiers who braved the difficulties and hardships under the severe war situation.The story of the long march is a series of heroic images such as Political Commissar Peng,Ping Yazi,Chief Zeng,and Wan Xia.In the entire opera,the character of "Ping Yazi" not only runs throughout the plot,but also plays a great role in promoting the development of the entire plot,including "Killing the Enemy in Dreams" and "I Can’t Leave the Red Army".The two cantatas,"Killing the Enemy in Dreams" and "I Can’t Leave the Red Army," represent the three-dimensional character of "Ping Yazi" and bring the whole opera to a climax.This study firstly summarizes the background and plot of the opera "The Long March" through literature research method and inductive method,and secondly,the author not only adds his personal experience in the practice session to the analysis of the main singing techniques,but also enhances the objectivity of the study through quantitative method,deepens the analysis of the score and structure of the opera,and provides new reference basis for the singers and learners of this work.The study also deepens the analysis of the score and the structure of the song by means of quantitative methods.Finally,through the analysis of the above research and the stage image of "Ping Yazi" throughout the opera,the character of "Ping Yazi" in the opera is established.The author hopes to understand and master the emotions and details of singing through the analysis of the singing and characterization of "Ping Yazi" in the opera,so as to improve the artistic expression and enable the singers to grasp the characterization more accurately and interpret the spirit of the Long March better in the process of singing.
