On The Inheritance And Influence Of Manet's Painting Style Characteristic

The 19th century is an important connecting period in the history of Western art.Manet,as a famous French painter in this period,did not belong to the emerging impressionism of that era;and full of rebellion against traditional painting.Studying Manet’s painting style and comparing it with previous and future painters can help us find the reasons for the change of the overall style of Western painting in the 19 th century.Manet’s paintings have been influenced by many previous masters,such as Honoré Daumier,Courbet and many Dutch and Spanish masters,which have brought him profound inspiration.The influence of Spanish painter Velasquez and Dutch painter Hals on Manet is particularly remarkable.By comparing Manet’s works with Hals and Velasquez,we can explore the similarities and differences between Manet’s works and the masters’ before;It also shows how Manet learned their styles and skills.Manet’s paintings also influenced a large number of later painters,such as many representative artists of Impressionism,such as Monet,Degas and so on.Comparing the artistic styles of Manet with Degas and Monet,and comparing their similarities and differences,we can find out how he inspired the young artists of his time,and then we can find Manet’s influence on Impressionism.Manet is a typical case of artists who appeared under the conflict between avant-garde and tradition in the 19 th century.This paper will start with the changes of Manet’s painting style in different periods,study how Manet inherited his predecessors,guided his descendants,and explore the social and historical reasons behind it.At the same time,Manet’s art has also deeply inspired me in artistic creation.Manet broke the tradition in painting.The natural and simple strokes,the use of direct painting method and the rebellious choice of creative theme in his works have also deeply inspired my painting.
