The drum kit is one of the percussion instruments that derives from the interpretation of popular music.The most distinctive difference between it and other instruments is that drum kit is not mainly for playing harmonies,but for rhythm.The drum kit is an instrument that exploits accent shifting more often to reflect musicality.Accent shifting is a regular rhythmic concept that involves using changes in accent within an inherent rhythmic type to give the listener a different rhythmic feel than the rhythm itself.In jazz drumming,accent shifts can be used to reflect the rhythm of the music,and to change the intensity,dynamics,voicing,and even phrasing of the performance.Through text and examples of scores,this paper will present an overview of the use of accent shifts in the band and in music,as well as their performance characteristics.There are many different approaches to building musicality,which can be reflected in the rhythmic shifts,the intensity of playing,and the changes in strength.The accent shift as a rhythmic concept can be applied to different genres of music.In this article,the importance of accent shifting in jazz drumming is discussed from the analysis of basic rhythms to its application in music,so that more jazz drummers can understand accent shifting in a more in-depth way,comprehend its usage and performance characteristics,and be able to apply it to different music genres with ease. |
