A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Fiji Ministry Of Education,Heritage And Arts-annual Report-2016＿2017(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Back-transformation Theory

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties,bilateral relations between China and Fiji have been developing smoothly.Therefore,it has become increasingly important to study Fiji.The Fiji Ministry of Education,Heritage and Arts-Annual Report-2016-2017 is a government work report and there are many long and complex sentences in it,so the author adopted Nida’s back-transformation theory to analyze the structure of long and complex sentences in the process of translation.As there is little research on Nida’s back-translation theory at home and abroad,translation research from a new perspective was conducted with the combination of the theory and the translation of long and complex sentences.The back-transformation theory includes three parts: analysis,transfer and restructuring.The author first analyzed deep structure of the long and complex sentences in the source text,picked out the kernels,then rearranged the kernels to form the deep structure in the target language,and finally produced the information according to the features of target language.In addition,the author adopted four translation strategies including linear translation,reversing,conversion and comprehensive translation from the perspective of back-transformation theory.Linear translation can be adopted if the logical order of long and complex sentences in English is similar to that in Chinese.The reversing method can be adopted if sentences have long clause and the translator needs to restructure to conform to the Chinese expression habits.English is a static language and nouns and passive voice often be used in it,while Chinese is different from English.Therefore,we need to change the parts of speech and voice to conform to the expression habits of Chinese in the process of translation.Sometimes the structure of English sentence is very long,so the translator needs to break it into two sentences to avoid lengthiness.It is necessary to adopt different translation methods in order to conform to the feature of the target text if the original text can’t be expressed accurately and smoothly only with one method.It is expected to provide a reference for the translation of long and complex sentences in government work report and related research.
