Xu Shangying, the author of Xishan Qinkuang,is a famous pianist in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties in China. On the basis of summarizing the previous theories of Guqin’s playing skills, this book comprehensively and systematically discusses the theory of Guqin performance art,and is a master of Guqin music aesthetics. Here, the so-called "The state and interest of Guqin" is the performance condition of the Guqin. In the book, the author summarizes the performance art of the Guqin into twenty-four conditions, each of which is expounded one by one,and clearly puts forward his own opinions.Xishan Qinkuang,as an aesthetic work of ancient Guqin music,is not only a rare historical document for us to study and study ancient music aesthetic thoughts, but also provides us with an aesthetic theory for reference on how to inherit and develop national instrumental music performance art today. In the course of decades’ development,Liuqin art in China is deeply nourished by traditional culture and aesthetic thoughts.Contemporary Liuqin art, whether playing techniques or music creation, has matured day by day,and has become an eye-catching flower in the big garden of national music in China.Among the twenty-four states in Xishan Qinkuang, the author pays special attention to and learns the guiding significance of the aesthetic thoughts expounded by "harmony" and "elegance" to Liuqin’s performance art."Harmony" in Xishan Qinkuang,As the first of the twenty-four situations,it is an important aesthetic category in the Guqin situation. It absorbs many conceptual connotations of "harmony" in history, and makes a unique and detailed discussion on the relationship among "string","finger","sound" and "meaning" in Guqin music performance, which has profound guiding significance for today’s national instrumental music performance art,and of course it is also true for Liuqin’s performance art.The first nine states of Xishan Qinkuang respectively discuss the aesthetic character of Guqin music, among which the ninth case "elegance" can be described as the concentrated embodiment of the aesthetic orientation advocated by Xishan Qinkuang,in which "advocating elegance and ignoring vulgarity" represents the most basic principle of Guqin music aesthetics, and it is of far-reaching significance to grasp the aesthetic orientation of instrumental music performance by studying its connotation in depth. This paper takes the music aesthetics thought in "harmony" and "elegance" in Xishan Qinkuang as the basis of research and writing,From the point of view of the text connotation of "the connection of string, finger, sound and meaning" and "advocating elegance and ignoring vulgarity",combined with the author’s performance experience, this paper analyzes and discusses two works,"Heaven and Earth Starry Sky" and "Cat’s Silent Song",so as to make the music aesthetics theory better apply to Liuqin’s performance practice.
