With the COVID-19 spreading around the world, the lives of humans are confronted with unprecedented challenges and threats. In face of the current serious situation, the English-Chinese translation of books about novel coronavirus can introduce the latest knowledge of COVID-19 from abroad and provide valuable experiences for the prevention and control system in China, contributing to the cooperation and exchanges in the international community and ultimate victory over the epidemic. Therefore, the translator chose the second and seventh chapters of the book,Coronavirus Outbreak: All the Secrets Revealed About the COVID-19 Pandemic as the translation material and wrote the report on the basis of the practice. In chapter two,the translator divided the translation process into pre-translation,while-translation,proofreading and revision and then she discussed the difficulties encountered in the process and put forward the corresponding solutions. In the case analysis, under the guidance of Nord’s functionality plus loyalty theory, the report explores the following two aspects: how to achieve the expected function of the original text in the translation;Meanwhile,it discusses how to deal with the differences in expressions and cultures between the two languages under the principle of loyalty to ensure the accuracy of the translation and the acceptability of the readers. As the report reveals, functionality plus loyalty theory is of instructive significance for the translation of COVID-19 texts. Moreover, the employment of translation techniques such as combination and conversion can better guarantee the functionality plus loyalty theory. Finally,it is expected that the report can provide valuable implications for translating the materials of relevant themes in the future.
