Research On Contemporary Shaoxing Opera Repertoir

With a history of over 300 years,Shao opera is an important part of Shaoxing culture.Although Shao opera originated in the South of China,it is better at performing the opera of loyal officers to punish the wicked and eliminate the evil,the drama of the patriotic,tragic and majestic war,and the play of the Shaoxing Monkey Opera with artistry and spectacle,than at performing the love story.As cultural life becomes richer and people’s aesthetic needs change,the survival and development of the already ancient and niche Shao opera in the 21st century faces great challenges: a lack of academic attention,the absence of professional scriptwriters of Shao Opera,and the difficulty of breaking through in terms of creative themes.Under the impact of the new culture,Shao opera practitioners need to innovate and avoid their shortcomings,and create new repertoires that reflect the spirit of the times and have a strong Shao opera flavour.This paper takes the contemporary Shao opera plays as the main subject of study,and compares the creation overview of the contemporary Shao opera plays in different periods,while classifying different types of productions and summarizing their achievements in terms of creation.Finally,it analyses and summarizes the artistic characteristics of the contemporary Shao opera plays,as well as its strengths and weaknesses in the process of development,in order to make a difference to the creative development of Shao opera in the new century.
