A Report Of Project Management For Student Small-size Translation Team

With the recent increase in academic exchanges,the demand for professional translators in publishing academic translations has grown,especially for student translation teams that excel at affordable prices and quality.Quality control is often a problem for this type of translation team.From August to September 2020,the author served as project manager for the translation project of Comparative Art: East & West and was in charge of its translation.Based on this practical experience,this report begins with an overview to the project,and a brief introduction of localized translation.It reveals that localized translation is commonly structured and completed as a project,with the project manager playing a key role.Furthermore,the report describes the management tasks at each stage as well as the problems encountered and the mechanisms to be used to resolve them.The definition of the requirements for recruiting translators,the timeline,and the scope of the project will facilitate the organization as well as specify the responsibilities of each member.Meanwhile,milestone events,trackrecording of members’ work,and cross-reviewing ensure timely completion and quality of the translation.Additionally,to resolve the problems of consistency of expressions and style that are commonly encountered in the process of quality control in deliverables,the report elaborates on translation principles based on translation tools and equivalence theory.Therefore,the project manager presents a quality check list for each translator to complete a self-inspection.The final translation is then reviewed by the project manager and the reviewer to verify that the content of the translation conforms to the Chinese academic style.At the end of the report,the report summarizes and reflects on the shortcomings in the project management process,making suggestions for future research and study.This translation report aims to share the author’s experience in managing translation projects for academic publications with domestic experts and academics,providing fresh ideas for managing translation projects for small translation teams of students.
