In English classroom teaching, although classroom lead-in only takes a few minutes,it is an indispensable and important teaching link.In recent years, the studies at home and abroad have mainly explored the functions, methods and principles of lead-in;the comparative researches on novice teachers(hereafter NT)and excellent teachers(hereafter ET)at home and abroad have also gradually increased. The research contents in the existing domestic literature mainly cover teachers’ teaching strategies, teachers’ professional knowledge, teachers’ discourse, teachers’ teaching behaviors and so on.However, there are few comparative studies on the classroom lead-in teaching of NT and ET.Based on Piaget’s cognitive development theory and Gagne’s information processing learning theory, this study compares the similarities and differences of the lead-in teaching of ET and NT,which aims to help NT design lead-in better and improve teaching proficiency. The research questions are as follows:1)What are the similarities and differences of lead-in methods between NT and ET English teaching?2)What are the similarities and differences of lead-in effects between NT and ET English teaching? In order to explore similarities and differences, this study takes the classroom records as the research subjects, which are seven ET classroom records from the 13 th English Teaching Competition Observation Seminar of Nation Secondary Schools and seven NT classroom records from Wangjiang Experimental Middle School,Wangjiang Changjiang Middle School and Anqing No.14 Middle School, using classroom observation and script analysis as the main research methods, using Observation Scale of Lead-in Teaching of English Teachers in Secondary Schools as the observation tool, and using lead-in methods,lead-in functions, and students’ involvement in lead-in teaching as the main observation points. The results of the research indicated that:(1)In terms of the diversity of lead-in methods, there is no obvious difference between the two types of teachers’ teaching;in terms of the utilization rate of different methods, the lead-in method with the highest utilization rate of ET is emotion lead-in method, while the lead-in method with the highest utilization rate of NT is knowledge lead-in method.(2)There are significant differences of lead-in effects between the two types of teachers’ teaching. In terms of lead-in functions, the lead-in teaching designed by ET has clear purpose and strong pertinence,it is novel and interesting, and the lead-in functions are diversified;the functions of NT lead-in teaching are limited, which can not stimulate students’ interest fully and expand students’ thinking. In terms of students’ involvement, the number of students’ participation in ET lead-in teaching is far more than that in NT lead-in teaching;students have high enthusiasm and interest in the lead-in teaching of ET,while students lack certain interest in participating in the lead-in teaching of NT.Therefore, the ET lead-in teaching has achieved better effects. Some deficiencies like small size of the subjects can be found in this thesis. It’s expected that future researches will make improvements based on this study and provide more new findings. |
