Wu Zuxiang’s creation of novels in his life was very short,mainly concentrated in the1930 s.His novels have always occupied a place in the history of modern Chinese literature with small quantity but good quality.They mainly describe the picture of the collapse and bankruptcy of the rural social economy in southern Anhui from 1920 to 1930,as well as the resulting material and spiritual difficulties of the people.This paper aims to discuss the suffering narrative in Wu Zuxiang’s novels,and explore the presentation form,aesthetic characteristics and causes of suffering narrative in his novels.The thesis is divided into three parts:Introduction.It mainly includes the research status of Wu Zuxiang’s novels,the reasons for choosing this topic and the main research methods of writing this paper.Body part.It mainly includes three chapters.The first chapter discusses the presentation form of Wu Zuxiang’s suffering narrative.Combined with the suffering theme in Wu Zuxiang’s novels,this part points out that the suffering form in his novels can be divided into two aspects: material dilemma and spiritual dilemma.Among them,the material difficulties are mainly concentrated in the bankruptcy of farmers,the poverty of rural gentry and the unemployment of shop assistants,which show the poor social environment and the difficult survival of the people at the bottom;The spiritual dilemma is mainly reflected in the disregard of morality and ethics and the suppression of "emotion" and "desire".The second chapter discusses the aesthetic characteristics of suffering narration in Wu Zuxiang’s novels.This part analyzes the characteristics of suffering narration in Wu Zuxiang’s novels from three aspects:the unique setting of story structure,the shaping of character image pedigree in suffering and the language art of describing suffering.The third chapter explores the causes of suffering narration in Wu Zuxiang’s novels.This mainly includes the influence of China’s "left-wing literature" trend of thought,the writer’s deep understanding of the cruel social reality in southern Anhui,and the writer’s inheritance of the local literature tradition created by Lu Xun.Conclusion.Summing up the significance of suffering narration in Wu Zuxiang’s novels is not only a conscious inheritance of suffering writing in Chinese traditional literature,but also greatly enriches the ideological connotation and artistic characteristics of Chinese modern local novels and social analysis novels. |
