In the 1930s,a large number of young active writers appeared in Chinese literary world, and Wu zuxiang is just one of them. From 1923 to 1943,he published a total of nearly twenty novels, and created his unique native world about Wannan. His works’contents cover from the individual’s marriage and family to declining society and national survival, which achieved high artistic achievements. So far, there have been massive research papers on them, but generally these papers are not adequate and accurate enough, especially the dramatic characteristics about his novels haven’t caught much attention.Although some researchers mentioned the point, most analysis ’lack of details and systematic arguments. Therefore,it is very important to have a overall grasp of these features by categorizing and summarizing. The dramatic features of Wu zuxiang’s novels reflect mainly in three aspects:compact space-time pattern, the sudden turns of plots, and vivid actions to create daily life images. He created vivid scenes of daily life and provided characters with a show stage by a cross-sectional writing teachniques. At the same time,he shaped the characters vividly with diffenrent personalities by describing their words and actions, and exposed characters’ mental status via the sudden turns of plots,in order to deepen the characters’ complex psychology and novels’ connotations. The existence of such dramatic features brings a unique style to Wu zuxiang’s works, which effectively promote the expression of the personal feelings of Wu zuxiang-loneliness and anger. His thoughts about the human nature, the collapse of society and the morality declining all permeates the people living in the cramped space.Vivid scenes create a fresh sense of presence to attract readers into the situation, and live their lives of the characters.Meanwhile,Wu zuxiang’s objective attitude creates a distance between readers and the text, which helps readers rethink all the contents involved.Wu zuxiang use the experience of dramas for reference in his novel writing(especially the short stories)in order to enrich its expressive efforts. This is his great achievement for merging two different literary styles-novels and dramas, which reflects his artistic creative capability and positive attitude. However,it is undeniable that these writing characteristics also limit the works’ full exploration on the depth and width for over-restraint and over-being cautious. This situation contibutes that,to some extent,it is likely Wu zuxiang underuse his materials and writing capabilities.Of course, this is Wu zuxiang’s active choice due to the education of ancient and modern literature;but at the same time, the chaotic social reality of China, and the experience of literary development,as well as literary trends of the age also play an important role in his works’ final presentation.
