Research On Eagleton’s Tragic Views From The Perspective Of Psychoanalysis | | Posted on:2023-06-04 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:W P Qin | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555306788971509 | Subject:Chinese Language and Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | | | Eagleton is a famous contemporary western Marxist theorist,the most outstanding literary theorist and cultural critic in Britain.His theoretical thoughts have made some achievements in literature,theology,politics and other aspects,especially Eagleton’s tragic theory.Eagleton’s view of tragedy,under the influence of psychoanalysis,reveals a new connotation,that is,tragedy is an aesthetic form in which desire generates death drive in the main action,redeems modern human beings and realizes socialist revolution.Studying the relationship between the two can further understand the essential source of tragedy and solve social problems such as human spiritual crisis in commodity economy.The thesis is composed of three parts:Introduction,subject and conclusion.The introduction mainly studies the status quo and the background significance of Eagleton’s view of tragedy.The first chapter of the main part discusses the influence of psychoanalysis on Eagleton’s view of tragedy from the theoretical source of psychoanalysis.First through Freud’s psychoanalysis,it reveals that Eagleton extended the concept of desire under Freud’s reconstruction of tragic ideology,laying a macroscopic foundation for his unique view of tragedy.Secondly,this thesis discusses the scapegoat theory,the construction of subject and the internal conflict in tragedy from lacan’s metaphor function,mirror theory,imagination,symbol and reality theory,so as to provide theoretical basis for the microscopic problems in his tragedy view.The second chapter discusses Eagleton’s interpretation of tragedy in the psychoanalytic theory of desire and body dimension.Firstly,the origin of modern tragedy is revealed through the dialectical relationship of desire in Eagleton’s tragic concept.Secondly,Eagleton uses the body dimension to illustrate the performance of modern tragedy.The two are connected to each other and provide the basis for the aesthetic,moral and revolutionary values generated in modern tragedy.Finally,this thesis reviews Eagleton’s criticism of tragic characters,tragic conflicts and tragic effects in traditional tragedies,and reanalyzes the modernity of Eagleton’s tragic view from the new perspectives of tragic environment,tragic events and tragic subjects,revealing the tragic core of tragic modernity under desire.The third chapter mainly analyzes the value existence of Eagleton’s tragic view under the influence of psychoanalysis,and expounds the role of tragedy in modern society from the perspective of aesthetic value,moral value and revolutionary value.Aesthetic value is to achieve self-perfection through positive power in desire;moral value is to strengthen the intersubjectivity between self and others through Eagleton’s reinterpretation of the dialectical relationship between "pity and fear" in tragedy;revolutionary value is mainly to realize socialist revolution through scapegoat mechanism in tragedy and cultural revolution through tragedy instead of religion,and to achieve self-transcendence,promote the development of social system and achieve salvation through the embodiment of these three values.Last chapter dialectical discussion of Eagleton view on tragedy spirit analysis,reveals the Eagleton tragedies in psychoanalytic theory under the influence of rich connotation of the positive role of the tragedy,and promote the progress of psychoanalysis in the humanities,but because of the Eagleton emphasize the positive power of desire and lust of terrorist forces,There are very utopian negative effects.Conclusion part of the scientific summary of the contemporary significance of Eagleton’s view of tragedy.Eagleton Incorporated the theories of psychoanalysis and proletarian internationalism culture into his modern theory of tragedy.Not only can tragedy not die,but it can also guide the Socialist Revolution in contemporary capitalist countries,the realization of human self-salvation. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Freud, Lacan, Eagleton, tragedy, desire | | Related items |
