| The study of metaphor dates back to the rhetorical study in Ancient Greece.Since then,scholars,including philosophers,litterateur,and linguists,have explored the metaphor.However,even though the theories used to study metaphor are diverse and different researchers have different fields to study metaphor,the study still remains at the lexical level.With the proposition of Grammatical Metaphor(GM),the study of metaphor has been stretched to the lexicogrammatical level.The theory of GM brings a new sight to the study of metaphor.According to Halliday,GM can be divided into ideational GM and interpersonal GM.However,some scholars suggest that the theory of GM is proposed based on the three metafunctions of language,so the GM includes the textual GM.Accordingly,however,Halliday keeps the neutral opinion on the existence of textual GM.Until 1992,Martin proposed the existence of textual GM in the text,and this thesis also proposes that the textual GM is included in the theory of GM.Based on the three types of GM,this thesis analyzes the distribution of ideational GM,interpersonal GM and textual GM and explains the reasons causing distribution result from the perspective functions performed by the GM.In terms of the theory of GM,this thesis analyzes the distributions and explains the reason,which,on the one hand,expands the field of application of the theory of GM to study the Chinese text instead of the English text and,on the other hand,enlightens the readers to pay attention to the linguistic features in the Chinese text and give them help when they write the relevant political article.The following findings can be gained from the thesis: three types of GM exist in the2020 Chinese Government Work Report.Types 2,5,and 13 of ideational GM mainly exist in the text,and some new forms of GM such as abbreviation of nouns and verbs also occur in the text.In terms of interpersonal GM,the command realized by declarative mood is the main form of the metaphor of mood,and the explicitly subjective type of metaphor of modality is mainly used in the text.Textual GM is mainly realized by meta-message relation and metaphorical theme-rheme structure.From the perspective of function,each type of GM performs particular functions in the text: the application of ideational GM is used for reconstructing the human beings’ experiences toward the relation of modification,which can make the hearers understand some inner meaning relation and attributes,and the application of ideational GM can expand the meaning to make the language expression terse and concise;in terms of the metaphor of mood,the application of interpersonal GM is used to create an comfortable atmosphere to close the relation between the speaker and hearers and enhance the hearers’ national sense of pride and confidence;in terms of the metaphor modality,the application of interpersonal GM can evoke the hearers’ evaluation to provoke their thinking and increase their confidence to cope with the future challenges;the application of textual GM can make the text cohesive in content and meaning,and make the gist of the text prominent.In addition,three types of GM interact with each other to serve to the whole text. |
