Compound directional complement is a very important grammatical structure in Chinese,and it also is an important grammatical point in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.As for Russian students,the structural form of directional complement is complex,and its meaning and use are difficult to grasp.Nowadays,there are a few studies on the teaching of Chinese directional complement and its acquisition by Russian students.Russian-speaking undergraduate students who have studied Chinese in Russia for three or four years are the research subject of this paper.Their Chinese learning background is the same,and their Chinese level is basically at an upperintermediate or advanced levels.Research methods used in the paper include comparative analysis,questionnaire survey and error analysis.This paper analyses the corresponding expression forms of Chinese compound directional complement in Russian via comparative analysis.With questionnaire this paper examines students’ understanding and acquisition of compound directional complement,and summarises and analyses their use of Chinese compound directional complement.By means of error analysis,this paper discusses the main types of errors,reasons caused them and use patterns.By means of comparative analysis,I found that due to the fact the grammatical item expressing the position of the speaker does not exist in the Russian language,most of Chinese compound directional complements do not have a complete Russian corresponding expression,but there are still a few ways to express the position of the speaker in Russian,for instance,via some prefixes or indirect object.Some other means to express compound directional complement in Russian include adverbs,literal meaning of a verb and context.Via application analysis,I found there are both correct use of Chinese compound directional complement and errors.Correct use can be divided into two types: completely correct use and positive substitution.Errors can be divided into three types: errors caused by the wrong understanding of the meaning of a directional verb,errors caused by the vague understanding of verbs expressing the position of the speaker,and errors caused by the wrong position of object in a sentence.I also stated some tendencies of Chinese compound directional complement use.Firstly,when learners reach the transition stage in compound directional complement acquistion,they tend more to use positive substitution.Secondly,due to learners’ vague understanding of the compound directional complement structure,they tend to ommit a verb preceding directional complement.Thirdly,due to limited understanding of a verb expressing the position of the speaker,learners tend to ommit or misuse this verb.I put forward some teaching proposals based on comparative analysis,questionnaire survey results and error analysis.The teaching proposals are regarded from three perspectives: detailed explanation of directional verbs,Russian-Chinese contrastive analysis use in teaching,practical application of specific context in teaching.I hope that this study can provide valuable help and reference for Russian students learninig Chinese and make a contribution to CASL teaching.
