The source text is chosen from chapter 3 of China’s Ethos of Poverty Alleviation written by Wu Li and Wang Aiyun.The source text is an informative text and mainly focuses on the practice of poverty alleviation in China.This translation practice mainly takes Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theory as the guiding theory.The translator adopts various strategies to solve different translation problems at the lexical,syntactical and textual levels.At the lexical level,the translator mainly adopts the techniques of amplification,paraphrase and literal translation with annotation to deal with culture-bound words and special expressions with Chinese characteristics,which can make the target readers better understand the message in the source text;at the syntactical level,the translator mainly adopts the methods of omission,amplification and division to translate non-subject sentences and compound sentences,which can make the translation more readable;at the textual level,the translator mainly focuses on the coherence and cohesion in the target text,and mainly uses the methods of inversion,division and synthesis to ensure that the message in the source text can be accurately conveyed and a good communicative effect can be created.This translation practice not only pays attention to accurately conveying the message in the source text,but also fully considers the understanding of the target readers to achieve a real communicative effect.The translation strategies adopted by the translator can provide suggestions and reference for the translation of similar texts in the future.At the same time,the translation of such a text is expected to introduce China’s poverty alleviation experience and spread China’s poverty alleviation wisdom to promote the development of human poverty eradication.
