Lee Ying, who learned poetry from Ou Daren as a child and traveled for more than 20 years, was nicknamed "The Poet of Black cloth" because he was a servant. He is the author of four collections of poems: Lee Ying’s Poems,Travel Notes,Sunset Clouds Appreciation, and Taverns. In addition,he also has a collection of poems named Poems Written in the Capital, including some donated poems from famous poets, such as Shen Yiguan and Xu Zhongxing.Starting with Lee Ying’s life experience, literary creation and interpersonal interaction, this thesis deeply studies the relationship between serving as a servant of Ou Daren and the improvement of Lee Ying’s literary status. The thesis is divided into following five parts. The first part is the experience of being a servant and Lee Ying’s literary status.First of all, there is a clarification of the meaning of "Black cloth" to correct the wrong understanding in some literature,in which "Black cloth" means "servant".And the thesis combs lee Ying’s servant experience to facilitate the development of the following. Finally, combined with all kinds of materials,Lee Ying is compared with other black cloth poets in Ming Dynasty in the thesis, and it is considered that Lee Ying is far higher than others in both the number of poems and the evaluation from others. It can be said that Lee Ying is the representative of those "Black cloth poets".The second part is poetry study of Lee Ying and the maturity of his writing skills.According to Ou Daren’s poetic viewpoint and Lee Ying’s poetic characteristics, this thesis analyzes Ou Daren’s influence on Lee Ying’s poetry. The study found that following Ou Daren made Lee Ying’s poems rich in emotion and had the style of "Kaiyuan" and "Dali" periods of the Tang Dynasty. However, imitating the style of Ou Daren, there are many repeated words and monotonous sentences which lead to the shortage of his own characteristics. The third part is Lee Ying’s travel experience and the diversity of poetry theme. This chapter analyzes and summarizes Lee Ying’s poems, and divides his poems into five categories: traveling, remembering the past, homesickness, attention to reality and feasting. The poor black cloth status originally limited the diversity of his poetry content. However,Ou Daren successively served as an official in Jiangdu,Guangzhou,Yanjing and Jinling and Lee Ying followed Ou Daren for more than 20 years, which broadened his vision and enriched his experience. Therefore, this kind of experience became the fundamental reason for the diversity of his poetry themes. The fourth part is the expansion of Lee Ying’s friends circle and his social relationship.Through the analysis of the data,it is believed that joining the association to write poems and poems donated by Xu Zhongxing are the main reasons for the expansion of Lee Ying’s reputation, and Ou Daren plays an important role of leading. In addition, this chapter takes the poets in Poems Written in the Capital as the research object, and investigates all kinds of people who communicated with Lee Ying.It is found that they came from all over the country and had a wide range of identities. These two characteristics also laid a broad mass foundation for the spread of Lee Ying’s reputation. The fifth part is about donated poems and praise to Lee Ying. This chapter investigates the time, place and reason of the writing of Poems Written in the Capital, and divides the poems donated to Lee Ying into three categories: regret for identity, praise for talent and treasure for friendship. It is believed that the large number of donated poems reflects the recognition of Lee Ying’s poetry, and enhances his literary status, which is also the best proof of his fame in literary and art circles.
