The intelligent era has developed the fields of interaction design and interface design which are attach importance to user experience. In order to improve the user experience, the phenomenon of user participation in design is more common. However, the visual design of interface often affects the user experience because the visual designer is disconnected from the whole design process.Users are concerned in many design theories.Participatory design attaches importance to users’ role and innovation ability in design. Many researchers at home and abroad are trying to invite users to participate in the design process.Users and design teams learn, design, experience and reflect together in this process,in order to improve the usability of products. At present, participatory design mainly focuses on user research and product testing. There are few cases of participation in interface visual design, but effective user participation can help designers find more suitable visual expression forms and improve the visual usability of the interface.the participation methods used for different visual elements are also different,so it is also very important to planning a logical design process and find an appropriate way to participate.Taking the visual design of participatory user interface as the research subject, this paper combs the user participation cases in the visual design of interface, summarizes the applicable participation processes, methods and tools.Demonstrates the feasibility of user participation through experiments,as to provide reference for the research on improve the user experience, and understand the role of users by studying the connotation of PD It also provides a perspective for the research in other fields of visual design.
