Shen Tong’s Yi Shu Ti form of Xiaoshu(义疏体小疏)is the main academic achievement of his exegetical study of Confucian classics, namely,Shang Shu Xiaoshu(尚书小疏)and Yi Li Xiaoshu(仪礼小疏)and Chun Qiu Zuo Shi Zhuan Xiaoshu(春秋左氏传小疏)are related to the study of Shang Shu(尚书)and,San Li(三礼)and Chun Qiu(春秋)and Zuo Zhuan(左传).The above three Xiaoshu(小疏)are collectively known as Qun Jing Xiaoshu(群经小疏)in academic circles.Although the specific contents of Xiaoshu(小疏)are different,we can still find out the common points of the three through the method of looking for the similarities in the differences, which is embodied in the same form of exegesis, the same type of exegesis content and the same style of exegesis. The introduction part of this paper is the general introduction and summary of Shen Tong and his works and Yi Shu Ti(义疏体).The first chapter is started form Yi Shu Ti(义疏体)characteristics and followed by the "small" reasons for the Xiao shu(小疏).The second chapter classifies the contents of the three books of Xiaoshu(小疏)exegesis, including the explanation of the rules of proper names, the analysis of the three types of sentences, paragraphs and chapters by using the concept of grammar, and the collation of different texts.First of all,the training of proper name regulation is divided into two aspects:explaining words and complicating the meaning of text. The second is using of the concept of momentum of a statement has the function of discerning the signified, analyzing the sentence reading and analyzing the method. The third is the collation of the characters and the correction of the different texts, which can be divided into two perspectives:words and sentences and chapters and different texts. The third chapter is about the characteristics and deficiencies of Shen Tong’s Yi Shu Ti(义疏体)form of Xiaoshu(小疏)exegesis,in which the characteristics of exegesis can be divided into four main characteristics, they are:to change the complex into the simple,to compare various viewpoints,to obtain their own views and serious investigation,to seek rigorous proof and to put the momentum of a statement integrate into the validation process. However, sometimes in the process of explanation, because of the excessive pursuit of brevity of space result to worse results. Therefore,Shen Tong Xiaoshu’s shortcomings are embodied in two main aspects:the explanation is too simple, the meaning is not complete and the problem is not solved. The fourth chapter discusses the academic value of Shen Tong’s works. His Yi Shu Ti Xiaoshu(义疏体小疏)not only promoted the vigorous development of Yi Shu Ti(义疏体)style, but also made pioneering and inheriting contributions to the study of Wu School(吴派)in The Han studies of Qianjia(乾嘉汉学).At the same time, because he lived in Wujiang,(吴江)he was an early representative of Wu School(吴派),and his influence on scholars in the middle and late periods of Qianjia could not be ignored.Through the study of Shen Tong’s works, this paper not only hopes to fill the gap in the study of Shang Shu Xiaoshu《尚书小疏》)and Chun Qiu Zuo Shi Zhuan Xiaoshu《春秋左氏传小疏》),but also hopes that respected scholars can pay more attention to Shen Tong’s academic works.
