| Movies serve not only a channel for entertainment,but also a reflection of reality.Currently,faced with combined impacts of European refugee crisis as well as COVID-19 pandemic wrecking great havoc around the globe,humanity is eager to find the underlying reasons for such challenges and trying to seek solutions to these problems.In the year of 2020,Professor Dai Jinhua from Peking University delivered a lecture titled "The Hinge of History:The Reality Today through the French Movie Les Miserables" to share with the audience her insights into major issues happening around the world based on this French movie and others under similar themes.Based on movie contents and her personal experience,Prof.Dai offers a unique perspective from Chinese scholars to understand and find effective solutions to such major problems.This report attempts to conduct a simulated C-E consecutive interpreting task based on the speech delivered by Prof.Dai to analyze the difficulties during interpreting and offer possible solutions accordingly.This report on simulated consecutive interpreting is conducted under the guidance of Skopos theory,which is originally designed for written translation but also highly instructive for interpreting as the major purpose of any interpreting task lies in reproducing the original intention of the speaker as much as possible in the target language.In this case,the author has to behave under the three principles,namely,skopos rule,fidelity rule and coherence rule.When analyzing the typical examples listed in this report,the author tries to explore the purposes of the task,the speaker,and the interpreter to analyze specific difficulties under the guidance of theoretical studies and flexibly apply possible solutions to ensure the smooth running of the practice.The interpreter is confronted with four outstanding challenges in this task,namely cultureloaded expressions,sentences with logical confusion,heavily-embedded modifiers and condensed information.While dealing with the above difficulties,the interpreter has to make full preparation in advance and apply multiple strategies,including free interpreting,restructuring,paraphrasing and generalization,in order to achieve better communicative results.As there is still a wide space for improvement,the interpreter also has reflections on how to properly allocate his energy and adapt himself to the new normal of interpreting work in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.Through this interpreting practice,the author hopes to have an in-depth analysis into the difficulties and constantly improve the corresponding strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory,so as to convey relevant information in a precise and efficient manner,making it stand as a reference for coping with similar tasks in the future. |
