| After the first World War,the traditional realistic painting in the United States gradually declined,and the "concrete" painting that emphasizes ideas and self became the mainstream art.Taking American figurative painting in the early 20th century as an example,although it is far from reaching the most far-reaching impact in the world art history,such as "Baroque","impressionism" and "Cubism",nor has it formed a cohesive art school,its unique artistic signs are impressive,and also provide more visual guidance and artistic creation possibilities for the diversified expression of figurative painting.There is no doubt that the works of this period are more inclined to go into the heart.They not only objectively and truly reflect the social reality and the spiritual demands of artists,but also look like a lonely mirror,which deeply reflects the confused,helpless and indifferent visual senses under the background of the times,leaving us a large number of visual dictionaries worthy of speculation.From the classical works of Chinese and foreign art history,it is not difficult to find that the "symbol" and "metaphor" hidden behind the image works are the most original rhetorical devices in artistic creation.From the current perspective,the author believes that the expression of "metaphor" is closer to a way of thinking,reflected in the viewable visual images,and also presents a different visual state and humanistic value.This paper takes American figurative painting in the early 20th century as the starting point,uses the relevant theories of metaphor to study the representation of edwardhopper’s works,and deeply discusses the abstract meaning implied in his figurative painting form and the unique expressiveness of implicating the viewer.This paper summarizes the metaphorical structure and rational spiritual connotation of American figurative painting in the early 20th century,so as to enter Hopper’s spiritual world.The full text is divided into four chapters.The first chapter takes time as the axis to describe the concept definition,social background and artistic form evolution of American figurative painting in the early 20th century,and clarify the basic rules and generation rules of artistic development.The second chapter makes an academic value judgment on the requisition of metaphorical concepts in the field of art,starts from the connotation,artistic function and artistic thinking of metaphors,refines the theme types of figurative painting metaphors,and discusses the application ways of painting metaphors in works through three aspects:object image,time and space,and spirit.The third chapter explores the universality,historical status and value significance of"typical" through the case analysis of representative artists(hopper).The fourth chapter tries to discuss the influence and Inspiration of metaphor on my artistic creation from multiple perspectives.For the author,theoretical exploration and practical operation complement each other and go in the opposite direction.This paper aims to combine personal interests and conduct research from the two structural levels of theory and practice,which is beneficial to the effective improvement of the author’s professional quality. |
