With the rapid development of society,people’s way of study,work and life has been revolutionized.Living in this new era,learners are asked to reach higher requirements.In modern society,to be a qualified citizen,learners should not only have the ability to deeply process information and solve practical problems but also have higher-order thinking abilities such as critical thinking and creative thinking.Deep learning,as a new learning approach,is in accordance with these new requirements.It has attracted more and more attention from teachers and researchers in elementary education.However,there are still many problems in students’ deep learning due to various factors.To improve students’ deep learning level and put forward targeted suggestions,it is necessary to investigate the current situation of students’ deep learning and explore the reasons behind it.However,through literature review,the researcher found that studies on the current situation and influencing factors of students’ deep learning mainly focus on college students and urban areas.Little research has been done on junior high school students’ English deep learning,especially in rural areas.Under this condition,it is significant to investigate the current situation of junior high school students’ English deep learning and its influencing factors.Based on this,this study plans to investigate two research questions:1.What is the current situation of junior high school students’ English deep learning in rural areas of Xi’an?2.What are the influencing factors of junior high school students’English deep learning from the perspective of learner factors in rural areas of Xi’an?How do they influence students’ English deep learning?To answer these two questions,the researcher adopted quantitative and qualitative research methods.215 students in a junior high school in a rural area of Xi’an were chosen as the research subjects.Through questionnaire survey and interviews,the current situation of students’ English deep learning and its influencing factors from the perspective of learner factors were investigated.After data collection,the researcher used the SPSS data analysis system to do descriptive statistical analysis,independent sample T-test analysis,correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis on the data collected.In addition,the researcher also conducted semi-structured interviews with four students and two teachers in the school to obtain more information as supplementary and supporting evidence of the questionnaire survey.Thorough data analysis,the following conclusions have been drawn:1.The current situation of students’ English deep learning in junior high school students in rural areas of Xi’an is not promising.The overall quality of their English deep learning is lower than the average level.2.There are group differences in students’English deep Learning.They are embodied in three aspects:gender,grades and academic performance.There are significant differences among the top,average,and underachieving students’ English deep learning.3.From the perspective of learner factors,six factors affect students’ English deep learning,including students’ learning motivation,self-efficacy,interaction with teachers,background knowledge,academic performance,and family support.Among them,students’ learning motivation,self-efficacy,interaction with teachers,background knowledge and academic performance are significant influencing factors on their deep learning.
