A Report On Translation Of The Futures Of Feminism(Chapter 4) Under The Guidance Of Textual Cohesion Theory

Since the 1960s,various forms of feminist movements have developed and profoundly raised the social position of women.Socialist feminism,as one of the three most influential factions of feminism,has significantly shaped the development of contemporary society and politics.The material translated is chosen from the fourth chapter of the book The Futures of Feminism.The book is focus on politics and feminist theory,in which the writer proposes an inclusive socialist feminism in the context of contemporary politics.The material is academically rigorous and practical,discussing the intersectionality of transgender women and feminism with current politics,and it is the core chapter in the book.During the process of translation,the author of this report found that textual cohesion devices are of strong importance in the source material.There are a variety of textual cohesion devices in the material,which not only make the structure of the text clear,but also express the ideas comprehensively and meticulously while retaining logical clarity.In order to reach the same textual cohesive effect in the target language,the cohesion theory is applied to guide the translation process.This translation practice report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is a brief description of the translation practice,introducing the source of the translated material,the writer,and explaining the significance of this translation practice.The second chapter is the description of the translation process,including pretranslation preparation,the process of translation and post-translation proofreading.In the pre-translation preparation stage,the author made comprehensive preparations for this translation practice from four aspects:the domestic and foreign textual cohesion theory,the guiding significance of textual cohesion theory for this translation,translation methods and principles,and the preparation of relevant materials and translation tools.The process of translation is divided into initial translation and re-translation.In this part,the author analyzes various problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process,and summarizes the translation strategies required by different cohesion means.The last stage of this chapter is the post-translation proofreading.In the third chapter,the author divides the types of cohesion in the original text into three categories based on the textual cohesion theories of Halliday,Hasan and Hu Zhuanglin:reference,structural cohesion and lexical cohesion.Then by combining the typical cases in this translated text,the author analyzes how to deal with the encountered textual cohesion in translation practice.Chapter four is a summary of the translation practice.Through this translation practice,the author realizes that the quality of translators deeply affects the quality of translation in all aspects.The translator not only needs to improve his or her native language and foreign language skills through practice,but also needs to study various aspects of knowledge to improve his or her cognitive level,and has to be extremely patient in revising and proofreading.It is hoped that this report can promote relevant research in the field of feminism and make some contribution to the translation methods of textual cohesion.
