The white Guanyin image in the Zen paintings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties is characterized by a female image wearing white silk and a crown,which has the aesthetic characteristics of plain and innocent,simple and elegant,as well as the typical schema and artistic expression techniques of this unique period.It was originally derived from the Chinese Translation of Esoteric classics,and combined with the belief of the people in white clothes.Since the beginning of the Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty,the white Guanyin image was prevalent in the stone carving paintings in the South of the Yangtze River and the Bashu Region,especially in the Southern Song dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty,the number of creation increased,which tended to be expressed in the form of ink painting.The creators of this period were mainly Zen monks,but also courtyard painters,laymen,Tiantai monks and folk painters.Since the creation and dissemination were mainly concentrated in the prevailing area of Zen painting and the expression technique was relatively stable,it can be regarded as the representative of Zen painting Guanyin and image.From the perspective of origin,style,layout and painting style,this paper constructs the overall appearance on white Guanyin of Zen paintings in Song and Yuan Dynasties.Firstly,it discusses the origin of the white Guanyin art image and the overall broadcast and prosperity in the Song and Yuan Zen forests.Secondly,it explains the typical patterns of white Guanyin images in Song and Yuan dynasties,which analyzes the image sources,modeling characteristics and cultural connotations of the seated Guanyin images,lying stone Guanyin images,walking beads and lotus boat Guanyin standing images.Thirdly,it analyzes the composition elements of the whole picture from the clothes,ritual utensils,accessories,natural scenes and themes of the Zen painting.Finally,I focus on demonstrating the artistic style of white Guanyin in Song and Yuan Zen paintings from the typical painting methods of line drawing,stroke reduction and splash-ink,then discusses the representative painters and paintings. |
