Study On Shaping Cultural Functions Of Squares In The Context Of Urban Renewal

The square is an important and special public space in the urban construction pattern,which has an important social significance and cultural function for the development of the city.In the process of urban renewal,the dominant function of the square has also changed over time,from a public political space for citizens to gather and express their opinions publicly,to a public living space for urban residents to find "nature" and relax in the city.Today,in modern cities,the function of the square as a public cultural space has become more prominent in order to meet the demands of shaping the cultural image of the city,providing public cultural services,and the public’s increasing attention to the construction of spiritual civilization.It has assumed the cultural function of carrying urban culture,providing cultural services to residents and serving as a platform for cultural exchange in urban construction.It can be said that a "good" city square is not only a constructive element of urban public space,but also an important component of people’s spiritual and cultural life.The Nie’er Cultural Square is a landmark project in the urban renewal process of Yuxi.In the top-level design of the construction of the square,the government has continuously strengthened its cultural functions and implemented three important initiatives: firstly,the establishment and strengthening of the Nie’er cultural theme,the harmonious transformation of the human ecological environment and the introduction of iconic cultural and artistic elements have shaped the cultural bearing function of the square;secondly,the planning and construction of public cultural facilities and the introduction of mass cultural activities have shaped the cultural service function of the square;thirdly,the major festivals have shaped the cultural function of the square.Third,the cultural exchange function of the square is shaped through the landing of major festivals and events and the cultural dissemination from offline to online.By shaping the cultural function of Nie’er Cultural Square,the government has turned the originally environmentally polluted Yuxi Zhou Da He area into a landmark public cultural space in the process of Yuxi’s urban renewal,enhancing the effectiveness of Yuxi’s public cultural services and driving cultural consumption in the square and the surrounding area.With the rapid development of modern society,the demand for cultural functions of the square in urban renewal is bound to escalate.While the cultural function of Yuxi Nie’er Cultural Square has achieved certain results,there are also some problems that can be improved,which are highlighted as follows: the single main body of cultural square management and service provision,the degree of mass participation in independent cultural activities needs to be improved,the level of market operation needs to be improved,and insufficient cultural creative empowerment.In view of the existing problems,the cultural function of Nie’er Cultural Square should be shaped by rationalizing and improving the management mechanism,building a public governance pattern of multiple subjects;encouraging and guiding the masses to organize cultural activities on their own;improving the social operation mechanism,encouraging and guiding social capital investment;strengthening the cultural creative empowerment,and strengthening the integration of cultural tourism,etc.to enrich,improve and enhance the four aspects.
