Study On Paintings Related To The Three Saints Of Tiantai In Song And Yuan Dynasties

"Three Saints of Tiantai" refers to the monk Fenggan of the Guoqing Temple in Tiantai in the Tang Dynasty,and the tourists Hanshan and Shide.They are three saints who have been in the Buddhist temple since the Song Dynasty.The categories discussed include various single or combined portraits of Fenggan,Hanshan and Shide in Song and Yuan paintings.During the Song and Yuan Dynasties,Zen Culture was widely infiltrated in various social strata such as literati,scholar-bureaucrats,and civil society.Zen Painting developed and matured under the historical background of blending with culture,various styles,Zen ceremonies and the large number of exchanges between China and Japan,Three Saints The portrait of Tiantai has also become a popular theme created by Zen monks and scribes.The paintings in Song and Yuan Dynasties are rich in artistic features,typical,and varied in style.The ordinary expressions and actions often appear in the paintings,such as laughing,pointing to the moon,unfolding scrolls,clapping hands,lying down and sleeping,etc.,which imply a strong Zen culture with profound spiritual connotation.The famous paintings in the Song Dynasty were mainly created in the Southern Song Dynasty,with a simple style and calm atmosphere,which have relatively consistent painting style.The famous paintings in the Yuan Dynasty had tendencies of stylization and diversification based on maintaining the painting style of the previous generation.Based on the records of famous paintings and the history of painting,Zen history and biography,this paper sorts out and analyzes the image source of the Three Saints of Tiantai and the painting forms and artistic styles of related themes,explains the evolution and inheritance of the Three Saints of Tiantai theme painting in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.This paper mainly discusses the following four aspects:Firstly,to define "Three Saints of Tiantai" and related concepts,analyze the image of "Three Saints of Tiantai" in Zen history and biographies,expound the origin of the image of Three Saints of Tiantai under the background of San Saints.Secondly,to sort out and summarize the expressions of the Three Saints of Tiantai theme paintings according to the types of famous paintings and related comments.Thirdly,to analyze the images of Zen culture contained in the appearance of the figures based on the expressions,facial features and movements of the figures in the Three Saints of Tiantai theme painting.Fourthly,to analyze the characteristics and development characteristics of paintings in different eras according to the artistic style of the Three Saints of Tiantai in the paintings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties.The paper aims at describes its unique artistic appearance and distinctive characteristics through the analysis of the characteristics,style and ideological connotation of the Three Saints of Tiantai in Song and Yuan Dynasties.
