In consecutive interpreting, the translator will allocate some energy to the logical analysis of the source language, that is,distinguish primary and secondary information, grasp the logical relationship, and deduce and predict the following context,so as to succinctly convey the true meaning of the speaker and avoid the redundancy of the target language. Many scholars also realize the importance of logical analysis when studying the factors affecting the quality of interpreting. However, most studies do not quantify the relationship between source language logical analysis and interpreting quality through experiments, and few studies discuss in detail the impact of source language logical analysis on translation redundancy. This essay attempts to analyze the effect of logical analysis of source language on the redundancy of the target language of student interpreters’ English-Chinese consecutive interpreting through two comparative experiments. The author selected 13 postgraduate students majoring in English interpreting from Yanbian university as the experimental subjects. An English interview of music master Vangelis by foreign media was used as the experimental material. Two comparative experiments were conducted to find out the following questions: 1)Whether the logical analysis of source language by students in English-Chinese consecutive translation has an impact on target language redundancy;2)If yes, whether the impact of source language logical analysis on target language redundancy is positive or negative;3)For the interpreters as a whole, whether the logical analysis of the source language has the same influence on the main performance of redundancy in the target language--repetition,filler words and corrections. The main findings of the experiment are as follows: first, the logical analysis of source language affects the redundancy of target language;Second, the logical analysis of source language has a negative impact on the redundancy of target language.Thirdly, for the whole interpreters, the logical analysis of source language has basically the same influence on repetition, filler words and corrections. Therefore,if interpreters carry out logical analysis reasonably, the redundancy of the target language can be reduced. On the premise of the same available energy for translation, allocating some energy to improve the logical analysis level of the source language can reduce the redundancy of the target language. Therefore, translators can improve their logical analysis ability in their usual interpreting practice,so that in the face of chaotic and illogical information, they can better carry out logical analysis of the source language, reduce the redundancy of the target language, and improve the quality of their interpreting.
