Food documentaries have been playing a significant role in carrying forward Chinese culture.As Chinese food becomes increasingly popular globally,the interpreting of such documentaries has an indispensable impact on cross-cultural communication.In communicative interpreting,information transmission is the ultimate goal of interpreting,while the coherence of the target language is a necessary condition for that,which is related to the reception and understanding of the source language information by the target language audience.Therefore,the coherence of the target language and information transmission are inseparable,and the coherence of the target language can achieve better information transmission.This selected documentary for this simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting is The Best Breakfast,showcasing the characteristic breakfast cultures from different regions of China.The humorous and witty narration was interspersed with numerous conversations among characters,which exhibited significant colloquial features so as to affect the coherence of the target language while transmitting information.By focusing on the information characteristics of the source language,it was found that it was the dietary terminologies and dialect colloquialisms,redundant and implicit information in the source language that led to incoherence of the target language.After analyzing several cases of initial interpreting,the corresponding solutions to the problems in this interpreting were put forward.Transliteration with annotation and paraphrasing can deal with the characteristic words of the source language.Omitting repetition and combining and deleting information can deal with redundant information.The problem of implicit information can be solved by manifesting logical relations and supplementing the subtextual meaning.Based on the perspective of transmitting information of the source language,this mockinterpreting aimed to solve the incoherence of the target language,in hope that it would serve as a reference for interpreting of similar documentaries in the coming years.
