This translation report is written based on the translation project undertaken as required by the MTI program for a master’s degree in translation.The translation project involves translating from English into Chinese two chapters(chapters 15 and 16)taken from The Dawn of European Civilization,a historical text in type authored by Griffith Hartwell Jones.The whole book contains 33 chapters,introducing and analyzing the origin,development and reform of ancient European civilization.The translator has accomplished the translation project as scheduled,working mostly under of guidance the Skopos theory,unpacking from the lexical and syntactic levels and employing with relevant Strategies,methods and approaches to make a best translation possible.Consisting of five parts,the report serves as a summary of the translation project to reflect upon how the translator has experienced in the whole translation process.The first part is the description of the translation project,introducing the background and significance of the translation project.The second part mainly gives an account of the three processes of translation.The third part is the theoretical framework,narrating the Skopos Theory and its application.The fourth part is a case-by-case analysis,examining typical sentences to illustrate how theory and Strategies are used in practice.The fifth part is the conclusion,summing up the findings and gains as well as the shortcomings observed in the whole translation process.
