By virtue of the relevant theories of cultural geography,combined with multidisciplinary knowledge such as history,geography,folklore,anthropology,sociology,through a study of the chronological dynastic histories,this paper mainly examines Guangdong local opera in the Ming and Qing Dynasties to present the origin and development of Guangdong opera culture,and strives to present the overall distribution of Guangdong operas in different periods.Moreover,this thesis aims at comparing the rheology and regional differences in different periods,and exploring the influencing factors of regional differences.The layout of this thesis falls into five sections.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the background,purpose and significance of the topic,concept definition,literature review,research methods,research difficulties and innovations;the second part discusses the nature and human geographical backdrop of Guangdong;and sorts out the foreign operas that have flowed into Guangdong since the Ming and Qing dynasties and the development process of the local operas in Guangdong,and organizes them into a table;the third part discusses the cultural landscape of Guangdong operas,including the material opera cultural landscape(stage,theaters,Liyuan assembly hall)and intangible opera cultural landscape(drama gods and opera customs),among which the distribution of stages and theaters as well as the emergence of Liyuan assembly hall are the products of regional economic development and the expansion of the acting market.the origin and transformation of belief in gods of different genre of drama are also,and to the mutual influence between local drama genres and foreign drama genres.The fourth part discusses the dynamic process of the spatial distribution of Guangdong operas according to the stages,which is divided into the formation period,the development period,and the fusion and finalization period.The distribution situation is drawn into a map,and subsequently the diffusion and integration of Guangdong operas in Ming and Qing Dynasties is discussed,and a case study is initiated in combination with Teochew opera.The fifth part discusses the factors affecting the spatial distribution of Guangdong operas in Ming and Qing Dynasties such as from natural geography and human geography.This paper draws the following conclusion:the development of Guangdong operas in Ming and Qing Dynasties has a strong regionality,and each ethnic group has formed its opera genres with local characteristics.The regionally distributional differences of Guangdong Opera in Ming and Qing Dynasties is the combined result of the migration of different forms,rich folk activities in various regions,the distribution of dialect areas,the concentration of folk arts(quyi(曲艺),music,dance and puppet opera)and ethnic cultural identity.Furthermore,this thesis puts forward the prospect:the protection of dialects and folk customs plays an important and fundamental role in the inheritance of operas;Besides,the communication between operas needs to be strengthened,and the boundaries between political regions and languages should be crossed,and therefore higher artistic pursuit could be reached,so that Guangdong operas could be better inherited.
