| In the Tibetan Buddhist belief system,the belief in Tara occupies a very high position and is considered to be the mother of the Three Truths and all Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas,as well as the embodiment of compassion and wisdom,and is highly revered and loved by Tibetan Buddhists.However,Tara is not a deity created by Tibetan Buddhism itself,as the belief in Tara was already very popular in ancient India,and among the many statues of Bodhisattvas excavated from the ruins of Nalanda Temple,there are many statues of Tara.In the course of later evolution and in the scriptures,Tara was gradually considered to be the incarnation of Guanyin Bodhisattva,known as Dora Bodhisattva due to the Sanskrit translation.As a Tibetan Buddhist temple located in the Han area,Xi’an Guangren Temple has a very special historical influence and social status.As a royal temple built by the Emperor during the Kangxi period,Guangren Temple is responsible for stabilizing the border and maintaining the harmony and stability of the Mongolian,Tibetan,and Chinese regions;Guangren Temple is one of the only monasteries in China dedicated mainly to the Green Tara of mercy and the only Tibetan Gelugpa monastery in Shaanxi Province,Guangren Temple is responsible for promoting Tibetan Buddhist culture and passing on the beliefs of the Green Tara of mercy;and as a charitable organization,Guangren Temple and merit society has been advocating the concept of as a charitable organization,Guangren Temple has been advocating the concept of "spreading benevolence" for many years,promoting the compassionate and loving spirit of Tara,and helping people in need to overcome difficulties,which has aroused strong reactions in the society and has a wide impact.This paper focuses on the current situation of the transmission and development of the Green Tara faith outside of Tibet,taking Guangren Temple as the field site,and collates the daily rituals and pujas of the Green Tara faith,the female deity enshrined in the temple,through field research.The author will also provide a basic explanation of the beliefs of Green Tara at Guangren Temple.At the same time,the author will analyze the characteristics of Guangren Temple and its differences with traditional Tibetan Buddhist monasteries,reflect on the differences and the reasons for their formation,and then analyze in depth the contribution and influence of Guangren Temple to national unity and social harmony in the process of its development,as well as the changes in the social function of Guangren Monastery in the course of history,and discuss the ways and influences of the Tara faith outside Tibet.Finally,we will analyze and reflect on the current situation and dilemma of the development of Guangren Temple and its Green Tara faith. |
