With the implementation of the new curriculum reform and the proposed teaching literacy in English,the cohesion stage of junior and senior high schools is gradually receiving attention from educators.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2017 edition)states that English learning has obvious characteristics of gradualness and continuity.Language learning lasts for a long time and requires gradual accumulation.The objectives of the English curriculum for basic education are divided into nine levels under this standard,aiming to reflect the organic connection between the curricula of primary,junior and senior high schools’ levels and the gradual development of students’ English language ability in each level,so as to ensure the integrity,progressiveness and continuity of the English curriculum.There are a variety of problems that arise when freshmen enter high schools,among which the vocabulary learning problem is particularly prominent.Vocabulary teaching plays a very important role in the improvement of students’ language skills.Therefore,only by helping students to pass through the cohesion of English vocabulary teaching in junior and senior high schools can we reduce the burden of teachers’ teaching and students’ English learning.The purpose of this thesis is to investigate:(1)What is the current situation of English vocabulary teaching cohesion in junior and senior high schools?(2)How can educators address these issues? 71 English teachers and 128 senior high schools’ students in Tong Liao area were selected as the subjects of the study,and a month classroom observation was conducted.The results of the questionnaire survey and classroom observation were analyzed,summarized.A lot of related literature was reviewed to draw conclusions.The following problems exist in the cohesion between junior and senior high schools’ English vocabulary teaching: Teachers have insufficient experience in transition teaching practice;the vocabulary teaching method is single and teaching resources are not abundant enough;it is difficult for students to develop good vocabulary learning habits and their interest in learning vocabulary decreases;the difficulty of learning content in junior and senior high schools spans widely.In view of this current situation,combined with teaching practice,the author proposes corresponding countermeasures from the perspectives of teachers,students and schools respectively.For teachers,learn vocabulary teaching cohesion systematically and enrich experience in vocabulary cohesion teaching;enrich the teaching methods of vocabulary and teaching resources;establish a multi-dimensional learning assessment system.For student,adjust their mindset and make a good psychical cohesion;develop vocabulary learning habits,change the concept of vocabulary learning.For schools,regular lectures for teachers;tighten the connection between junior and senior high schools;add more cohesion courses;use appropriate cohesion textbooks to help students get through the cohesion period smoothly. |
