| Under the background of globalization,the relations between countries are becoming increasingly connected,and along with the continuous promotion of China’s Belt and Road Initiative,the cultural interaction with other countries is increasingly close,but in fact,behind the communication between different languages lies the deeper communication between different cultures,because of different cultural backgrounds,inescapably,there will be communication barriers that affect communicative effect and cause communicative failures.Thus,it is of great importance to have cultural awareness in intercultural communication.In addition,the middle school students are in the critical period of value formation and development,their own cultural awareness is relatively weak,if not guided,it is likely to set up wrong cultural awareness,and even form biased cultural values.So,it is very essential to strengthen the cultivation of middle school students’ cultural awareness.Admittedly,the cultivation of cultural awareness is not the thing overnight and it cannot be created once,on the contrary,is a relatively slow process,coupled with the characteristics of "hidden",it has a certain difficulty to train,and traditional teaching methods have little effect on cultivating students’ cultural awareness,and thus the practical implementation of cultural teaching has not achieved its ideal results.Situational teaching method is extensively applied and highly respected by many teachers owing to its intuitive and interesting characteristics.However,further research is needed on whether it is effective in cultivating students’ cultural awareness.Therefore,the author focuses on the situational teaching method,by using questionnaire survey and interview to explore its effectiveness in cultivating middle school students’ cultural awareness,and further to answer the following two questions:(1)Whether the situational teaching method is effective in the cultivation of middle school students’ cultural awareness? If yes,how effective is it in cultivating students’ cultural awareness in all dimensions?(2)Which dimension of students’ cultural awareness has more significant change under the situational teaching method and analyze reasons.Excel and SPSS 25.0 were used for statistical analysis of the collected data.The following results are obtained:(1)Situational teaching method has effectiveness in cultivating students’ cultural awareness.Before and after the experiment,the overall cultural awareness level of students in the experimental class changed and enhanced notably,while the overall cultural awareness level of students in the control class did not change noticeably.(2)Situational teaching method can promote every dimension of cultural awareness.Students in the experimental class have improved to a certain extent in the three dimensions of cultural knowledge,cultural emotion and cultural behavior compared with the pre-experiment.Situational teaching method can improve students’ desire for cultural knowledge and promote them to master and accumulate richer cultural knowledge;Through the specific situations,students can deepen their understanding of culture,gradually establish a positive cultural attitude and form correct values;At the same time,the situation can also encourage students to communicate more actively,express personal ideas more bravely,and students can deal with the problems occurred in communication more effectively,and to make appropriate cultural behaviors.Whereas there is no significant change in the dimensions of cultural knowledge,cultural emotion and cultural behavior in the control class.(3)Situational teaching method plays a more significant role in the dimension of students’ cultural emotion.Based on the above research results,get the following enlightenments can provide guidance for English teaching:(1)In the English teaching practice,teachers must pay attention to the training of middle school students’ cultural awareness,and make efforts to improve their own cultural literacy and information technology literacy,after all,teachers are important curriculum resources and should try their best and make efforts to provide students with rich cultural resources,actively use various methods to arouse students’ interests in cultural learning.(2)Teachers should change the traditional rigid teaching methods when conducting cultural teaching.Situational teaching method can be adopted as an effective means to improve the poor effect of cultivating students’ cultural awareness.(3)Teachers should also actively explore other teaching methods,after all,there is a saying that " methods in teaching are available,unlimited but worth selecting",that is to say there is no single teaching method can be used throughout the whole course of teaching,teachers should form the unique teaching method according to the characteristics of the course objectives,students,personal advantages and so on,not only can guarantee the quality of teaching,but also can cultivate students’ cultural awareness at the same time,to promote students’ comprehensive development and give full play to the educational value of English subject. |
