Teachers’ professional development refers to the process in which individual teachers continuously improve their professional ideas and ethics,enrich professional knowledge and improve their professional ability in their career.Quality education comes from excellent teachers,the professional level of primary school English teachers determines the quality of primary school English curriculum implementation.In the current educational environment,the professional development of primary school English teachers is not optimistic.By combing the relevant literature,and based on the methods of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview,this paper investigates the professional development status of 40 English teachers randomly selected from four primary schools in Q City,in order to explore the problems existing in the process of professional development,find the causes of the problems and formulate targeted development countermeasures.According to the survey results,there are some problems in the overall development of teachers’ ethics,professional knowledge and professional development of primary school teachers.In view of the above problems,the study mainly analyzes the reasons from three aspects: society,school and teachers: from the social level,The professional recognition of primary school English teachers is insufficient,and the salary of primary school English teachers is not high,the relevant departments pay low attention to the professional development of primary school English teachers,the investigation of primary school English teachers in teacher recruitment examination is not reasonable,small promotion space and limited promotion channels of primary school English teachers are the main reasons for the obstruction of primary school English teachers’ professional development;From the school level,the main reasons hindering the professional development of primary school English teachers include the unreasonable curriculum structure in the stage of pre service normal education,the few on-the-job training opportunities for primary school English teachers and the results are not significant,the heavy workload and hidden pressure of primary school English teachers,the lack of school cooperative culture and scientific research atmosphere,the single assessment dimension of primary school English teachers,etc;The reasons for teachers themselves mainly include the heavy family burden of primary school English teachers and the lack of understanding and support from their families,the lack of internal drive for primary school English teachers’ professional development,the job burnout of primary school English teachers caused by simple and boring repetitive work,and the personality factors of primary school English teachers restrict their professional development.In view of the above reasons,this study further puts forward a series of countermeasures to promote the professional development of primary school English teachers.From the social perspective,we should strengthen the construction of teachers’ ethics,improve teachers’ salary,increase investment in education,optimize teachers’ recruitment system and speed up the reform of personnel system;From the school level,we should reform the curriculum of normal universities,improve the post service training system,people-oriented,reduce the burden and improve efficiency,vigorously create a development atmosphere and establish a scientific evaluation mechanism;Teachers should properly deal with family conflicts,enhance their awareness of professional development,dare to challenge,innovate and correct their own professional attitude.
