Need to belong(NTB)is that individuals basic need to form and maintain a minimal number of non-negative interpersonal relationships, and individuals experience acceptance and fulfillment of their need to belong when they perceive their relationship with another person to be of high value, whereas. When you perceive your relationship with another as worthless, you experience rejection and frustrate the need to belong.Previous research has shown that the need to belong is closely related to response to social rejection(Rt SR)and intensity of social media use(Io SMU),it has a significant impact on fear of missing out(Fo MO).Based on previous research, currently study intends to explore the impact of NTB on Rt SR in college students, and to examine the chain mediating effect between NTB and Rt SR.Further explore the causal relationship between college students’ NTB,Fo MO,Io SMU and Rt SR.The research is divided into two phases:In the first study, survey data from 493 undergraduate students who use social media were collected using the Need to Belong Scale,Fear of Missing Out Scale,SNS Using Intensity Scale, and the Rejection Scenarios Questionnaire.Result form Correlation Network analysis and Bayesian Network analysis revealed that there is a significant correlation between the four variables.NTB may be the root of the Rt SR.Fo MO and Io SMU mediated the relationships between NTB and the Rt SR.The second study was a two-wave longitudinal research, with an interval of 7months,involving 410 college students.Result from Two-way Repeated Measures Anova revealed that the change of Rt SR was not significant all of other three variable increased significantly. All of the four variables could predicted the development after7 months. The relationship between Fo MO and NTB,the relationship between Fo MO and Rt SR can be predicted within seven months. When only considering the Fo MO and Io SMU,they can alse predict each other within seven months. This study can promote social change by informing policy and instruction on digital media literacy, social media use in the classroom, and therapeutic interventions offered by campus psychological services, all of which can positively influence college students’ mental health and wellbeing. |
