In the history of sports in New China,the Chinese women’s volleyball team has won the championships titles for many times.The videos on them were always recorded in a way of documentory in the past,and only few movies are about the Chinese women’s volleyball team.Leap,a movie directed by Chen Kexin,mainly told the striving process for winning championship from two angles of the team both in the 1980s and nowadays,which signifies the transmission of their spirit,deeply touches audience.At the same time,Director Chen created an emerging form of sports films by combining documentary and fiction,providing a model for other sport movies.The sport film,Leap,was analyzed as a case sudy in the thesis.Metz’s first film semiotics and second film semiotics serves as the therotical basis.The thesis aims to explore the movie’s highlights in character semiotics,narrative semiotics and culture semiotics,and their function on revealing movie’s value from the perspective of character shaping,narrative structure and cultural display skills.In terms of expression of character semiotics,the study finds that the character disperity of current and previous team members and conflicts appeared on screen on the basis of the age difference to emphasize the theme of pursuiting self value.At the same time,the movie character will become more vivid by chosing the real actors in the physical world.In terms of the narrative semiotics,it is very persuasice for chosing Lang ping’s life experience as the main thread to spread the movie.The film has employed the narrative technique of Eight Combination theories for many times to show the ups and downs of the story plot to attract the audience.In terms of cultural semiotics,the movie appears various cultural essences by reappearing the era background of the old generation of women’s volleyball,re-enacting new women’s volleyball live events,and portraying the.In particular,the arrangement among movie tones,lights,lines,and props,etc,creats a well-proportioned atmosphere.On the basis of the analysis of three types of semiotics,the thesis concludes their social role,artistic significance and commerce value,anticipating to provide experience for similar sports themes and all kinds of sports films in China through the character shaping,narrative structure and cultural display skills of the film.
