| With the rapid development, extensive research and application of modern biotechnology in recent years, biotechnology has become a major breakthrough for control of forest pests and diseases, and is of great significance to the sustainable development of forestry. The source text Forest Health and Biotechnology:Possibilities and Considerations is a scientific report published by National Academies Press.Combined with case studies of American tree species, this scientific report mainly explores the potential of using biotechnology to mitigate threats to forest health from pests and diseases. The translator chose Chapter 3(Mitigating Threats to Forest Health)of this report as the source text of the translation task. This translation report consists of four chapters, which are task description, translation process, case analysis and summary. And case analysis is the core content of this translation report. As the source text belongs to scientific and technical text, the technical terms, passive voice, attributive clauses and long sentences in the task are the main challenges encountered by the translator while translating.Based on the three rules of Skopos theory, and combined with the differences between English and Chinese, the translator selects appropriate translation methods to guide specific translation practice, and analyzes typical cases in the translation from lexical, syntactical, and textual levels.Through this translation practice, the translator’s ability of translating forestry sci-tech texts has been improved greatly, and the translator also hopes that this task can provide valuable references for Chinese forestry researchers and translators engaged in forestry science and technology translation. |
