Purpose: To observe the clinical characteristics of patients with phlegm-fire-disturbed ventricular premature beats(VPB)and heart failure(HF),and evaluate the efficacy of berberine on phlegm-fire-disturbed VPB and the improvement of patients’ heart function so as to provide reliable evidence on TCM treatment for VPB and HF.Methods: According to the selection criteria,72 patients with phlegm-fire disturbed VPB and HF were enrolled, and the included cases were divided into control group and treatment group, and with 36 cases per group.Under the conditions of normal use of other basic western medicine drugs, the control group: mexiletine(0.1g each time,3 times a day),the treatment group: mexiletine(0.1g each time,3 times a day),add Berberine(0.3g each time,4 times a day),each group planned a course of treatment for 14 days.By comparing the number of 24 h ventricular premature beats before and after treatment,TCM syndrome score, cardiac function classification, score of Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire(MLHFQ),6-minute walk test distance,B-type Natriuretic Peptide(BNP)level and echocardiography figure indicators evaluating cardiac function left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD),observe the improvement of ventricular properties and heart function. Results: 1.The combination of berberine and mexiletine used in the treatment of patients with phlegm-fire disturbed VPB and HF is better than patients using mexiletine alone in improving the patients’ number of 24 h ventricular premature beats and the TCM syndrome score.2.For patients with phlegm-fire disturbed VPB and HF,berberine combined with mexiletine is better than patients using mexiletine alone in improving the patient’s cardiac function classification, score of MLHFQ,6-minute walk test distance,BNP level and echocardiography figure including LVEF,LVEDD.Conclusions: On the basis of conventional treatment,Berberine has certain therapeutic advantages and application value in improving ventricular premature beats,TCM syndrome scores and cardiac function in patients with phlegm-fire disturbed VPB,especially in VPB patients with cardiac insufficiency, which is worthy of clinical application.
