| Translation is an activity that requires the translator and the reader to complete together.Without the translator, the reader can’t read foreign literary works, and without the reader’s reading, the translated work will lose its value and meaning. With the development of the times, the translation of an excellent literary work is increase, and readers have more choices. However,in the face of many different translations, what should readers do in order to choose suitable version for reading, and which style of translation can satisfy readers’ individual demand? This thesis based on corpus of different Chinese versions of Doctor Zhivago to compare the characteristics of different versions from reception of readers. The corpus focuses on quantitative research and uses data to analyze characteristics. The research of reception of readers requires to list many examples for analysis. The two methods,no matter which one is used alone, have limitations when analyzing the text features of translated works. In order to avoid the problem, this thesis combines the two methods, that is,with the help of the corpus, compares the difference between the Doctor Zhivago by Bai Chunren and Gu Yaling and the translation by Lan Yingnian and Zhang Bingheng from linguistic and cultural perspectives, and analyzes the reader’s acceptance of different versions. It is found that the Bai version uses more domesticated translation strategies and is more consistent with the expression of modern Chinese. The Lan translation uses more foreignized strategies and retains more features of the original work.At the same time, this thesis uses questionnaire and Douban evaluation to investigate the reader acceptance of different Chinese versions. The result shows that although both versions are acceptable to Chinese readers, the acceptance of the Bai version is higher and it is more suitable for general audiences to read. For readers who knows Russian, the Lan version is an important reference to read the original. Each translated work has its own value, but different translation is suitable for different readers. In order to create a more acceptable work, the translator should make clear the cultural level of the target readers, and pay more attention to the needs of readers. |
