Abstract/Summary:
Boris Pasternak,a writer from the former Soviet Union spent a decade to create Doctor Zhivago.It was controversial for political reasons.After many twists and turns,this work was not officially published in the Soviet Union until the late 1980 s.Boris Pasternak won the Nobel Prize in Literature for this work,but was also persecuted for this work.Pasternak reconstructs the indelible history of his own experience in this work.He gave due credit to the beautiful and sensitive aspects of Russian life of that era.Doctor Zhivago is the only novel of the Boris Pasternak,which embodies his sincere desire as an intellectual to record the truth of the Times even under political pressure.In the novel,Boris Pasternak reproduces the real life of Muscovites in the Revolutionary Years in a realistic way,expressing his reflection on history and revolution by presenting the myriad living conditions in the flood of the Times,thoughts on death and rebirth,love and freedom.Throughout the novel,the location of Moscow is linked for the most part.The city is no longer an ordinary geographical concept,but rather a silent,living and growing with all Muscovites,all Russians.Therefore,this thesis intends to bring Doctor Zhivago into the research horizon of "Moscow writing",this paper makes a detailed analysis of the theme of "Moscow writing" from the following aspects: his own experience of Moscow city,the use of several symbolic images in his novels,the metaphorical urban spaces in his novels,and his reflection on history and human nature in his urban writing.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this article is divided into four chapters.The introduction introduces in detail the research status of Doctor Zhivago and other aspects of his works at home and abroad,and summarizes the research methods and innovations of this paper.The first chapter summarizes the comprehensive Moscow experience of the Boris Pasternak in conjunction with the contents mentioned in his autobiography.The content of a writer’s writing is often the projection of his inner experience,and his writing in Moscow combines his own experience of growing up in Moscow with his real experience and inner feelings in the revolutionary era.Even as he watched Moscow turn from a fairytale city into a living hell,he dedicated his life to his art in praise of Moscow,still looking forward to a return to the good old days in Moscow.The second chapter analyzes the symbolic meaning of the frequent images in Pasternak’s urban writing.Pasternak’s college years were the most influential periodof symbolism in Russian literature.As a symbol,Bloch accompanied Boris Pasternak and his peers throughout their youth.From Bloch,the Boris Pasternak learned to use symbolism,to make the city the hero of his work,and even to make the city speak."Crossroads","candle","Tram" these images of the rich meaning of the convergence of a lively urban language and the city itself as well as the spiritual character and inner temperament of the city people one by one presented in front of the reader.The third chapter analyzes the metaphorical urban space of Moscow in the novel,from which we can see the thinking about the history and the fate of Russia before the revolution that runs through the urban writing of Boris Pasternak.The Boris Pasternak’s record of historical truth focuses on the living conditions of people in space and the life choices influenced by the characteristics of space,in the tide of the Times,the individual has paid great attention to the choice of his own position and the real-time experience of the individual at every moment.Through the analysis of the character of the city of Moscow,which has been shaped by the Boris Pasternak through the spaces of "the Black Mountain apartment","the Petrov street","the Dubriand manor" and "the twenty-eight Brest Street",we can appreciate more deeply the reflection on history,revolution and human nature.The Fourth Chapter explains the theme of Pasternak’s Moscow writings.In the words of the characters in the novel,Pasternak expresses his view on man,history and revolution: History should be like the Kingdom of plants,with its own laws of development,which should not be changed by force in any case.One can not escape the whirlpool of history,but one can define one’s place in history and avoid being enslaved by self-improvement through love and sacrifice for others.The conclusion summarizes the inheritance and promotion of the "Moscow text" tradition in Russian literature by the Moscow writing in Doctor Zhivago.
