This report is an E-C translation report in the Financial field. The source text JFSA’s Supervisory Approaches is the formal document published on the official website by Japan’s Financial Service Agency,i.e,the authority supervisory institution of the government. The source text has put forward new regulation approaches for supervising financial institutions focusing on the existing problems.Through the translation,it could provide a global reference for supervision reforming in domestic financial institutions, therefore, the translation has its value and practical significance.Based on the Skopos Theory, proposed by Katharine Reiss and continuously developed by Hans Vermeer, the author will find some solutions to address the problems that occurred in the translation process by applying three rules specifically, that is,the skopos rule, the coherence rule, and the fidelity rule. From the holistic aspect, translation strategies employed in this task should be determined by the purpose of the translation task, hence, the literal translation is a reasonable method aiming to best comprehend the source text and express it in the target language, with the reason that the purpose of the translation is to introduce the supervisory approaches employed in the international world and ideally to inspire the new regulations inside, with specific target readers. In details, this report discusses the translation techniques from three aspects, that is,the lexical level, the syntactic level, and the discourse level. On the lexical level, the author utilizes the techniques such as conversion, amplification or mission, and collation aiming at the coherence of the target text.On the syntactic level, with the goal of achieving the skopos rule and fidelity rule, this report discusses the source text by sentences types based on the linguistic analysis: mixing or splitting the modifier for adjective clauses, reordering the adverbial clauses, conversing the voice for passive sentences, and omitting the dummy “it”.On the discourse level, according to the three rules in the Skopos Theory, the reporter utilizes two techniques: getting close to the source language and getting close to the target language.Through this translation practice, the translator has proceeded with deep learning for translation theoretical knowledge and background and has got a preliminary understanding of the financial translation guided by the Skopos Theory, which could improve the translator’s practice ability.Additionally, the innovative point of this report is that the author conducts the translation techniques on the basis the grammar analysis falling in the linguistics field, namely, the author summarizes the translation techniques in terms of distinctive sentence categories, that is,the attributive sentences, the adverbial sentences, the passive sentences, and dummy "it" sentences.Hence, the author hopes that the translation strategies and techniques that have been concluded in the report could be a reference in future financial translation. |
