The Literary Rasa Of Man Tiger

Eka Kurniawan is regarded as the most original novelist in Indonesia,and his literary works have an aspect of showing Indonesian literary tradition.Man Tiger,as one of his major works,incorporates traditional elements such as indigenous Indonesian oral traditions,myths and legends,and concept personifications with revealing social realities,reflecting his literary creation style.Based on the tradition of Eka Kurniawan’s literary creation style,this thesis uses Indian classical literary theory that has a profound impact on the aesthetics of the Indonesian literary tradition—Rasa theory to interpret and explore the text creation of Man Tiger,so as to understand the influence of Indian classical literary theory on Indonesian literary tradition,excavates the unique aesthetic purport of Indonesian literary works.Appreciating from the perspective of Indian Rasa theory,Man Tiger along with its poetic and smooth narrative presents multiple aesthetic emotions that arouse readers’ inner emotional effect,which can be called the rasa of literary,as well demonstrated that Man Tiger is a masterpiece full of rasa and with obvious rasa theory creation principled tendencies.This thesis analyzes the text creation of Man Tiger from the perspective of Indian Rasa theory,explores the relationship between the plot structure of the text and the development of rasa,comprehensively and deeply understands the various rasa presented in different episodes and scenes of the text,meanwhile interprets the expressions and constituent elements of various rasa,recognizing several major rasa of Man Tiger-karu?a,vīra,s??gāra,adbhuta,and other relatively minor types of rasa.All kinds of rasa constitute the emotional appeal of the work,which resonates with readers and gives them a transcendent experience of rasa.In addition,this thesis studies the excellent skills of the writer’s Rasa theory creation in depth,including how he skillfully renders and accentuates the karu?a and vīra of the work with various rasa,such as s??gāra,raudra,bibhatsa,bhayānaka and adbhuta,to give the reader the ultimate emotional experience to understand the writer’s compassion for the misfortunes of the country.
