| China’s space exploration is in a critical period.Interstellar navigation and deep space exploration are inevitable trends in the development of China’s space industry.How to deal with the higher risks brought by such missions to the lives and health of astronauts is one of the urgent issues to be solved.For Chinese space practitioners,the research reports from the first countries in the space industry such as America and Russia are of great reference value.Space science texts belong to science and technology(S&T)texts,which have a large number of lexical features using terms,nominalization structure,and syntactic features of multi-complex sentences and passive sentences.The source text of this report is “Space Radiation and Astronaut Health: Managing and Communicating Cancer Risks”(excerpt),which comes from the National Academies Press(NAP).This paper mainly describes the health threats faced by astronauts in the space environment and describes the recommendations and conclusions of the Special Committee on updated space radiation health standards and NASA’s radiation risk communication strategy.The source text has the characteristics of science and technology text,with rigorous structure and clear logic.Based on Catford’s translation theory,this paper attempts to explore how to translate the special expressions of aerospace S&T into Chinese from the aspects of hierarchical and categorical transformation.This paper puts forward the following three suggestions: First,at the lexical level,translators can make intra-system shifts to translate neologisms and terms.As for nominalization,class shift can be considered.Second,at the syntactic level,translators can split long and complex sentences,and then make structure shifts or unit shifts.When translating passive voice,translators can consider structure shift.If the translation needs to be improved after shifting,translators can provide some explanations to obtain a more readable version.In summary,this theory can provide guidance to the E-C translation of aerospace texts. |
