As an important branch of literature, children’s literature is an important part of cultural exchange, which promotes and deepens the understanding of foreign cultures.Children’s literature knows no borders.Translation of excellent foreign children’s literature into Chinese and exposure of Chinese children to foreign children’s literature can form cultural exchanges. This report is based on excerpts from The Curse of the Chocolate Phoenix by Kate Saunders,an award-winning British author of Costa children’s books. It aims to promote the spread of children’s literature and enrich children’s reading content. In the process of translation, the translator strives to make the translation conform to the reading expectations and reading level of young readers from the cognitive perspective. In this translation practice, the translator mainly analyzes the translation from the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels.First of all,at the lexical level, the translator mainly uses four-character phrases, reduplicated words and onomatopoeia to increase the childlike interest of the translation and realize the educational function of children’s literature.Secondly,at the syntactic level, the translator uses division, reconstruction, negation, combination and addition to achieve the fluency and smoothness of the translation. Finally,at the discourse level, the translator mainly uses reference and conjunction to achieve textual coherence and cohesion, increase the logic of the translation,so as to deepen young readers’ understanding and grasp of the full text content.Through this translation practice, the translator has improved the translation level to a certain extent and gained some translation experience in children’s literature.Translation of children’s literature should not only make the language easy to understand, but also make the language interesting. Therefore, the translator should not only be faithful to the original content, but also take into account the rich inner world of children. The translator should stand in the perspective of children and express the childlike interest of the original text in the way they like.
