A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Fourth Edition Global Health Care:Issues And Policies (Chapter One)

This is an English-Chinese translation report from Fourth Edition Global Health Care: Issues and Policies authored by Carol Holtz and published in 2022,the Chinese version of which has not been created.Thus,the translator determines to select Chapter One of the book as translation research,which represents the general introduction of global health and relevant health terminology,agencies,significant historical events and discusses the sustainable development goals and latest progress worldwide.The translator hopes to convey the key information of the original text to the target readers,at the same time,the process of translation can also help the translator to get a deeper understanding of issues and policies in global health.At the beginning of the report,the translator introduces the background,objective,significance and structure of the report.And then,the translator analyzes three stages of translation including preparation before translation,process of translation and proofreading after translation,main content and linguistic feature of the source text.In the following parts,the translator elucidates difficulties encountered in the translation at lexical,syntactical and discourse levels and puts forward the corresponding methods respectively as follows:(1)As for conversion of part of speech,transformation of polysemy and translation of medical terms in the source text,the translator adopts conversion,semantic extension and annotation to ensure quality of the source text according with the target language expression habits;(2)With regard to the translation of attributive clauses and adverbial clause in the source text,methods of division,inversion and amplification are employed in the translation process to help the target readers fully understand the source text;(3)In terms of semantic cohesion and logical coherence,substitution and repetition and logical conjunction are adopted in the translation so as to correctly and smoothly convey information and eventually reach certain communicative effect.At last,the translator summarizes the report and achieves some acquisition and suggestions for the future translation.
