| Accessible communication has become the trend in recent decades,giving impetus to the development of new models in the field of audiovisual translation,which meets the needs of different industries and groups.Influenced by this trend,audio description has become an emerging hot research topic.Based on current research focus,it is of great significance to practice the translation of audio description academic texts.This report selects Chapters 12-13 in The Routledge Handbook of Audio Description for translation and analysis.The book was published in 2022 and edited by Christopher Taylor and Elisa Perego.The main contents of the selected texts are the practices of audio description used in museums to serve the visually impaired people.After examining the language features of the original text,this report concludes that the source text satisfies the standards for academic texts,which place an emphasis on the dissemination of knowledge,and then provides instructions for translating under the direction of Reiss’ text typology.This report explores specific instances at lexical,syntactic and textual levels with the description of translation methods and techniques adopted in the whole translation process.The translation aims to smoothly and accurately convey the original contents,achieve the function of academic texts,and facilitate the exchange and dissemination of audio description.According to this study,the text typically employs proper nouns and nominalization at the lexical level,adopts passive voice and complex long sentences at the syntactic level and uses grammatical and lexical cohesion at the textual level.The author primarily uses literal translation for the entire text in order to disseminate the information in a clear and correct manner.Word conversion and term consultation are regularly utilized at the lexical level;sentence reconstruction,voice transformation,and splitting are used at the syntactic level to accommodate readers’ reading preferences;addition technique is frequently used at the textual level.This report can provide a reference and proof for the translation of relevant academic papers in audiovisual translation.It is conducive to the introduction and promotion of the accessible communication of audio description. |
