Research On Simplification Of Chinese Characters From The Perspective Of Design

Currently,the "messy connected strokes" of Chinese characters frequently appear.In practical writing,people consider ease and efficiency,and therefore simplify or link strokes based on traditional character writing.This fast-paced writing without standardization is not conducive to the preservation and transmission of culture,and represents a part of cultural deficiency.As early as the Han Dynasty,in order to cope with the chaotic handwriting of simplified Chinese characters in folk culture,the shape of cursive script was standardized,also known as "Zhangcao".This cursive script with rules gradually developed towards the path of calligraphy art,and its practical value was neglected.However,in the context of the digital media era,how can we extract the ancient practical gene of simplified writing,use modern technology to maintain the standardization of Chinese characters,rectify the concept of Chinese character users,trace back to the source of "linked strokes" simplification from Zhangcao script,and realize the inheritance of the essence of Chinese culture.This paper is the author’s thinking and exploration on this issue.Starting from the development context of "connected strokes" simplification,this paper traces the influence of the background of the times,aesthetic concepts,and writing media on the shape of "Zhangcao" script during the process of "connected strokes" simplification.The current phenomenon of messy connected writing is investigated,and the characteristics of simplified characters generated in actual writing are summarized to provide solutions for existing problems.The visual and design features of "Zhangcao" are organized,the factors that have an impact on them are analyzed,and the methods of "Zhangcao" simplification and digitization are summarized.The design ideas and systematic methodology of the current calligraphy font library are sorted out,and the current situation of font design is dialectically viewed with future font design paths outlined.Considering the presentation medium and application scenarios of fonts,the design thinking that "Zhangcao" digitization should possess is explored,and the design process of "Zhangcao" digitization is depicted.Finally,the further development direction of "Zhangcao" font library design in modern context is discussed from three aspects: visual form,design thinking,and usage scale.
