This article focuses on the Spanish post-Civil War theme novels by Juan Marséas the research object,examines the real portrayal of post-war Spanish reality in his novels,analyzes the character images in his novels,and reviews the narrative strategies employed in his creative process.Finally,the article discusses the restitution and defense of historical memory in his works.The introduction chapter first explained the source and research purpose,significance,and methods of the topic.Secondly,it summarized the current domestic and international research status and conducted a brief analysis.Then,the life experiences and creative achievements of Juan Marsé were introduced.Finally,the general situation of post-war Spanish novels was sorted out in chronological order.Chapter 1 "From Bloody Repression to Forgetting Agreement: The Real Presentation of Post-Civil War Spain Reality" first discusses the writing of rebellion theme in Marcel’s post-Civil War novels through analyzing the description of historical facts such as Franco’s dictatorship,the indiscriminate massacre of the defeated people and cultural dictatorship,memory management,etc.Secondly,taking time as a clue,it restores the pain brought to Spanish society by the Civil War and Francoism in the past,records a series of problems caused by the huge gap between the rich and the poor at present,and warns of the harm that the Spanish people will face in the future.Thus,this chapter summarizes Marcel’s revelation of various traumas that the Spanish people and society faced during the post-Civil War era.Chapter 2 "Character Images in Juan Marsé’s Post-Civil War Theme Novels" analyzes in detail some important and typical character images in the research object.On the one hand,Marsé likes to choose non-heroes and anti-heroes as protagonists to shape the image of the group,such as the confused and distorted young generation after democratic reform,and rebellious teenagers who gradually fall into the vortex of the times.The discussion and research on these non-heroes and anti-heroes contrast the glorious image of communist soldiers who suffered from the internal war,revealing Marsé’s inner value orientation.On the other hand,starting from the character of the red-haired mother Rufina,the author explores Marsé’s humanistic care for the vulnerable groups in the era of the post-Civil War through the complexity of her character.Chapter 3 "Narrative Art in Juan Marsé’s Post-Civil War Themes Novel" : Firstly,starting from analyzing the author’s narrative perspective,through discussing the differences between the child’s narrative perspective and the omniscient perspective,exploring the author’s value judgment and moral evaluation towards the object of representation,and excavating Marsé’s narrative stance and basic emotions.Secondly,discussing the physical and hidden psychological space in the novel,examining the author’s narrative strategy,and the social and cultural significance behind the arrangement of the narrative space that intertwines reality and illusion.In conclusion,Juan Marsé has made significant contributions in defending historical memory and his outstanding abilities are displayed in his character portrayals and narrative techniques.
