| Rumour-refuting popular science articles are a common discourse form on popular science websites or rumour-refuting platforms. They play an important role in controlling rumors and restoring scientific truth. At present, researches on rumour-refuting popular science articles are mostly carried out from the perspectives of communication and sociology, but there are relatively few achievements in researches on rumour-refuting popular science articles from the perspective of linguistics, especially discourse analysis. In essence,rumor-refuting popular science discourse is a kind of "functional discourse",which has its specific language form and discourse structure.Studying and analyzing the language and structural features of this kind of discourse is of practical significance to the writing and understanding of this kind of discourse. It not only helps authors better organize discourse and convey scientific information, but also facilitates the public to accurately and quickly extract effective information and grasp scientific truth. Therefore, under the guidance of the relevant theories of systematic functional linguistics, this paper adopts a research method combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to discuss the specific characteristics of popular science discourse from the three levels:vocabulary and sentence class, macro structure and micro cohesion. The function and context of a discourse determine the characteristics of its form.As a type of popular science discourse formed in the process of scientific falsification of rumors,it has diverse social functions, including conveying information, correcting public opinion, guiding the public, and solving the confusion. As a discourse product with a specific communicative purpose under context regulation, popular science discourse has unique contextual characteristics. The field features are the virtualization of communication scenes and the diversity and timeliness of topic selection.Tenor is characterized by uncertain subject, unequal power relationship, informational intention and persuasive intention. The mode features are the frequent conversion between formal and informal forms. We investigate and analyze the register features of rumor-dispelling popular science discourse, which provides important explanatory basis for subsequent studies. The main content of this paper is to discuss the specific characteristics of rumor-dispelling popular science discourse from three levels: vocabulary and sentence category, macro structure and micro cohesion. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:In terms of vocabulary,rumor-dispelling popular science discourse uses a large number of professional terms, absorbs colloquial and network buzzwords appropriately, uses modal verbs reasonably, and uses hedges and boosters in a balanced way.At the level of sentence categories, declarative sentences are often used.Although the other three sentence categories are used less, they also play important speech functions in the discourse. At the structural level, the structure potential of rumor-dispelling popular science discourse is extracted: [(background introduction)·opposing propositions·(question)]^rumor judgment ^ explanation ^(countermeasures and suggestions)^ topic summary. In terms of macro structure,it forms a "Claim-Response" pattern. In terms of information arrangement,it follows the principle of decreasing importance of informationAt the level of cohesion,rumor-dispelling popular science discourse cohesion means to achieve discourse cohesion.Cohesive devices include grammatical cohesive devices, lexical cohesive devices and logical cohesive devices.Grammatical cohesion devices mainly use reference and ellipsis, and seldom use substitution.Lexical cohesion is mainly realized by lexical repetition and synonymy.Logical cohesion mainly uses parallel connectives, reverse connectives and causal connectives, while sequential connectives are rarely used. |
